EA boss denies video games encourage violent attacks

Theme: Technology                                                                                        By Leo Kelion

The question that video games provoke “actual violence” is being debated. The boss of Electronic Arts (EA) has denied that there is any link between violent video games and  “actual violence”. The topic has become the focus of political debate in the US following shootings in a Connecticut school and a Colorado cinema. After the incidents, the National Rifle Association (NRA) said the video game industry showed "violence against its own people".
I think that the idea that violent video games cause “actual violence” is not entirely  the truth. The truth I think is that those incidents were caused by mental illness, and bad childhoods, or abusive parents, or a major incident that traumatized the shooters.  I don’t think that violent video games should be discontinued. I believe that they give us an important insight on war. An important insight on war would be a good thing because it would help us be sympathetic to war vets and their families. But violent video games do have their downsides, they are addicting, they can cause anger and rage, which can lead to many things, and they are more exciting than stupid games like pong. All in all I think violent video games shouldn’t be outlawed.

Lying is justifiable if it's for the greater good.I picked a 4 out of 5 because if someone is going to die if you tell the truth then you should lie to save a life. Also little white lies don't hurt anybody, for example if someone asks if you like their shoes and you don't it doesn't hurt to lie about it.

Sometimes violence is the only way to solve a problem. I put disagree because I learned in my life that there are many alternatives to solve problems, such as black mail. which I know it sounds bad but it's better than violence. There are a lot more effective methods to problem solving than the one I just stated, but that was an example.

It is okay to kill someone in self-defense.I picked strongly agree because if someone or something is trying to kill you then by all means you have all rights to kill them. I would rather live than die personally.

Words are stronger than fists. I picked the middle om this one, because some words are stronger than fists. But it depends on how you use them if you don't use them correctly then they are weak, and have no meaning.

Bullies hurt others because they have low self esteem. I chose disagree because bullies might have self esteem issues but they bully for different reasons. One of those reasons might be because they might be bored and they want to get a reaction from someone for entertainment. Another issue could be issues with their parents or someone bullied them and they want to bully someone.

Only the best and brightest students should receive the best education to become a nation's leaders. I chose strongly disagree because being a good student has little to do with good leadership. I also disagree that ONLY the best should receive the best education, because others should have the opportunity to get the best education.

Revenge is never justified. I neither agree or disagree because some people have really good reasons for revenge. Also at the same time there are people who have no good reason for revenge.

Crying is evidence of weakness. I chose disagree because, sure crying might be evidence for weakness. But some of the strongest men in history cried at one point in time. Everybody cries so that either means everybody is weak or crying isn't really evidence of weakness.

Any action is acceptable in war. I chose in the middle for this one because, I couldn't decide if that was true or not. If its a life or death decision then many actions that would normally not be acceptable are acceptable. but not all the time in a war it's a life and death situation.

Teenagers need discipline and rules because they can't control themselves. I chose disagree, because that's a stereo type. Most all adults think that teens are irresponsible and cant make wise decisions for themselves. Sometimes that's true but not all the time.

Only through personal sacrifice can someone create positive change.

I chose strongly disagree because that's true in many cases but not in all cases. I can't think of an example but i'm sure that there are some out there.

Generating compassion for your enemies is the only way to create peace.

I chose disagree. I chose disagree because That's not really true in very many cases. For example in World War 1 & 2 I don't think we created passion for Hitler, I think we felt bad for the people he was hurting. But in Ender's Case it's true.

You Are a Bodily-Kinesthetic Learner

My mantra: Movement is fun-damental.
Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence means I think in movements. The fundamental ability to use movements for either self-expression or precision to achieve a goal is crucial for surgeons, athletes, mimes, choreographers, and directors.
The best way for me to retain information is to associate it with an activity. Dance, acting, and sports are easy for you to master. Relate what I am trying to learn to one of these activities, and I will retain information and gain understanding.

Tips for the way you learn:

  • Perform a skit to show the action of the idea I'm are trying to learn.
  • Make a game out of the materials.
  • Apply what I'm are learning to hands-on models or in-practice examples.
  • Stay active when I'm in a situation in which I need to concentrate. I can squeeze a stress ball when talking with someone or walk around while reading a book.
I was sort of surprised to find out that my learning style was Bodily-Kinesthetic. I thought that my learning style would be more Logical-Mathematical. This sort o relates to me because I play sport but that's about all.I don't really see how Bodily-Kinesthetic can really relate to learning. The only relation it has to school is P.E., and the only thing you do in P.E. is be active.

I'm  a Logical-Mathematical Learner

My mantra: Why? Well, because it's logical.
Logical-mathematical intelligence is often what we refer to when we call someone -- such as a mathematician or an engineer -- smart. You possess the ability to understand complex problems, both logical and mathematical. This intelligence asks questions, finds solutions, and reflects on the problem-solving process.

Tips for the way you learn:

  • Think about what I'm trying to learn as a puzzle or a formula.
  • Ask questions and allow myself to experiment with my own hypotheses to find solutions or new answers.
  • Concentrate on symbols, designs, and words to bridge mathematical and verbal logic.
  • Create an outline to understand my subject step by step. Doing so will allow me to stay organized and track what i'm learning in a logical sequence.

This is my second best learning style. I thought I would get this as my best one. But I got 44 %

I'm not a Naturalistic Learner

My mantra: Let's investigate the natural world.
Naturalistic learners often understand the patterns of living things, and they apply scientific reasoning to the world. You recognize (and can classify) different types of plants or animals. You also empathize with animals. Some well-known careers for those with naturalistic intelligence are farmer, naturalist, animal behaviorist, and scientist.

Tips for the way you learn:

  • Observe and record data.
  • Create a "living system" for the material I'm are trying to learn. Imagine the new material as an ecosystem or a pattern for me to figure out.
  • Write about nature, daily life, or people as a topic so I become engaged in my assignment.

I wasn't really Surprised to find that I'm not a naturalistic learner. I only managed to get a 17%.

Asa fights back

Asa Fights Back

On an average day of my 6th grade life, an attempted assault happened. It happened during a lunch break on a cold cloudy day. My friends and I were eating lunch like any other day.
I casually said,
“Who here likes David, I really don’t, He’s fat, he’s stupid, and he gets in a lot of trouble. Who would like someone like that.”
David is a bigger kid who is fat, ugly, and has a mohawk.
 One of my friends comments,
 “His mom.”
  We all laughed at that.
 Another of my friends teased,
“Raise your hand if you like david.” Nobody raised their hand.
then another one of my friends whispered so that I couldn’t hear,
“If you like david stay here.”
As I stated unfortunately I didn’t hear. So everybody left me all by myself. As I sat there I heard the usual david talk. He usually taunted people. I recall david taunting Asa. Asa was a 7th grader at the time he also got in a little bit of trouble. So they were both at the detention table.
David taunted Asa by saying, “hey Asa, I heard that you’re in Townsend's, you must be stupid.”’
Mrs. Townsend’s class is like Mrs. T’s class here, its for students who need help doing their classwork.
 Then Asa would retort with,
 “Shut up fatty!”
They kept going until the teachers separated them, even then David still kept taunting Asa by doing the “Asa’s a retard pass it on.”
Finally from what I remember, Asa whispers in a menacing tone,
“David if you don’t shut up I’ll beat you into a coma.”
Then david jokes,
 “Ooooh I’m so scared.”
Apparently Asa wasn’t joking
 I was thinking to myself,
Oh some stuff’s about to go down.
Then as the fighting gets worse I start thinking,
Now craps about to hit the fan
Finally Asa explodes, he picks up his chair and runs at David.
My head is spinning I think,
 Oh hot damn.
 David screams,
“Asa, stop! I didn’t mean it, calm down!”
Asa swings the chair and just barely hits the side of Davids head. then the principal grabs Asa while I run off to the basketball courts to tell everybody what just happened.I run to the cafeteria doors, I race through the hallways, and finally out to the basketball courts.
 I stammer,
“Asa just hit David on the head with a chair!”
 Someone shouts,
“Bullcrap”
 I reply,
 “No crap, come and see.”
We all went down to the cafeteria all the way joking. As we walked I pondered what
I had just witnessed. I wondered why someone would tease someone so much that they would attack that person. It didn’t make sense, I understood what fun it was to tease people, but I stop when they get irritated.
When we got there we saw Asa getting handcuffed.
Then someone said,
 “Oh crap he wasn’t kidding.”
 I remark,
“See I told you so, some stuff went down, major stuff.”
Then on about Friday, when Asa got back it looked as if he were a celebrity, because everybody was around him asking him questions.
